An original production with new choreography set to a timeless story with cast of 80 dancers. Performed by the students of the School of Russian American Ballet and professional dancers of Brighton Ballet Theater. The BBT's original version of The Nutcracker featuring Russian Method trained dancers, exquisite costumes, and Tchaikovsky’s beloved score has been created especially for family audiences. BBT's Russian American Kids Ballet received an award from Mayor Michael Bloomberg for Best Ballet Shows for The Young Audience.
This charming performance is a delightful introduction to ballet and the holiday tale of The Nutcracker. Resplendent in breathtaking costumes, dancers from Brighton Ballet Theatre's professional and junior companies recreate that magical night when a young orphan girl named Marie is astonished to see the Nutcracker and other toys come to life, doing battle and dancing in her living room. Recommended for ages 4 and up.

* The Nutcracker Ballet has been inspiring audiences for over a century.
The Nutcracker (Russian: Щелкунчик, Shchelkunchik) Op. 71, is a fairy tale-ballet in two acts, three scenes, by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, composed in 1891–92. Alexandre Dumas père's adaptation of the story "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King" by E. T. A. Hoffmann was set to music by Tchaikovsky (staged by Marius Petipa and commissioned by the director of the Imperial Theatres Ivan Vsevolozhsky in 1891). In Western countries, The Nutcracker has become perhaps the most popular of all ballets, performed primarily around Christmas time. The composer made a selection of eight of the numbers from the ballet before the ballet's December 1892 premiere, forming The Nutcracker Suite, Op. 71a, intended for concert performance. The suite was first performed, under the composer's direction, on 19 March 1892 at an assembly of the St. Petersburg branch of the Musical Society. The Nutcracker was first performed in Saint Petersburg, Russia on December 19, 1892.
* For many, going to the see the ballet, The Nutcracker, is a holiday tradition.
